Journal History

Journal of Art and Art Teaching Methodologies “Secreta Artis” (“Art Secrets”) was founded in 2017 be Sergey Andriaka and Daria Fomicheva. “Secreta Artis” since its first issue in May 2018 has been publishing materials that can serve as the foundation for preparing fine arts history textbooks for artists. It is worth underlining that most of our authors are primarily experienced professional artists, practicing art educators and restorers. Further development of the academic journal is planned to be dedicated to relevant, although insufficiently examined, field of art studies, which incorporates theory and practice of painting, graphics, sculpture, decorative and applied art. Therefore, the major tasks of “Secreta Artis” consist in exploring how works of fine art are made, as well as in finding ways to foster and educate great artists. In 2019, we introduced a regular section «Visual teaching aids», featuring samples which demonstrated phases of the completion of training assignments. These materials help master the methods of consistent work in different genres and techniques of fine arts. As a new initiative for 2019 we begun to publish adapted Russian translations of the foremost Western European manuals intended for artists and teaching the theory and practice of drawing, painting and composition in the classical tradition of fine arts. These texts let readers learn numerous forgotten secrets of professional skills and understand how masterpieces from museum collections were created. Apart from that we are preparing for publication a series of works in the field of authentic historical techniques and technologies of fine arts, penned by major foreign experts.
